Everything you need to host, join, and play — from putting games on the TV to the rules of every game on the platform.
1.Getting started
We Had a TIME runs entirely in the browser — no app to download, and guests don't need an account. A full game takes three steps:
- Pick a collection. Choose the Social Games or Baby Shower collection and the game you want to play.
- Host or join. One person hosts and gets a room code; everyone else scans the QR code or types the code in on their phone.
- Play & compete. Everyone plays from their own phone — put it on a TV for the full party experience.
2.Hosting a game
- Tap Host a Game and pick your collection and game — you can switch games between rounds without starting over.
- Your room opens in a lobby with a QR code and room code. Share either one — players appear in the lobby as they join.
- You're the remote control: start the game, kick players if needed, and show or hide the join QR code on the TV from your phone.
- When everyone's in, hit start. That's it.
3.Joining a game
Three ways in — no account needed:
- Scan the QR code on the host's phone or the TV with your phone camera.
- Enter the room code at wehadatime.com/join.
- Don't have a code? Ask the host — it's on their screen the whole time.
4.Putting it on a TV
Games are way better on the big screen. Any screen with a web browser works — a smart TV browser, a laptop plugged into the TV, or casting a browser tab.
- On the TV's browser, go to wehadatime.com/watch.
- Enter the room code from the host's phone.
- The game plays out on the TV while everyone answers from their phones. The host keeps full control from their own device.
5.Game rules
Tap any game for a quick rundown. Every game also shows these rules right before you play, so nobody has to memorize anything. And the lineup keeps growing — new games and fresh content are added regularly.

6.Accounts & billing
What does the $3.99/month subscription include?
One subscription unlocks every game in The Social Games Collection. Only the host needs a subscription; guests always play free.
Do you add new games and content?
All the time. Question banks and card decks get fresh content regularly, and brand-new games join the collections as they're ready — your subscription always includes everything new, at no extra cost.
How does the Baby Shower Collection work?
It's a one-time purchase of $24.99 per event — not a subscription. One purchase covers your whole shower, all baby shower games included.
How do I sign in? I never set a password.
There are no passwords. Enter your email on the sign-in page and we send you a magic link — clicking it signs you in. You can also sign in with Google.
How do I manage or cancel my subscription?
Sign in and head to your profile. If anything gives you trouble, email play@wehadatime.com and we'll sort it out.
How do I leave a review?
Sign in, then open the reviews page and tap Write a review. You can add a star rating, a comment, and up to three photos. Your review goes live right away; photos appear after a quick check.
I run a venue or business — do you have plans for us?
Yes! Restaurants, bars, and event venues can host games for their guests with a business subscription.
7.Troubleshooting
It says "Room not found" or the room expired
Double-check the code with your host — codes only work while a room is active. Rooms close after the party ends, so if it expired, the host can start a fresh room in seconds.
I got disconnected mid-game
No panic — go back to the join page, enter the same room code, and you'll rejoin the party right where it's at.
The TV screen froze or stopped updating
Refresh the browser on the TV and re-enter the room code. The game keeps running on everyone's phones in the meantime — the TV is just a spectator.
My magic-link email didn't arrive
Give it a minute and check your spam folder — it comes from login@wehadatime.com. Avoid requesting several links back-to-back; spam filters don't love that.
My phone screen keeps dimming during games
We keep your screen awake during play, but if your phone still dims, bump up your auto-lock time in your phone settings and keep the browser in the foreground.
